Meet Attorney Scott Selis

Scott A. Selis is a Florida Elder Care Law and Florida Elder Law attorney. He is the founder of Selis Elder Law of Florida.

Scott’s practice focuses on making Florida long-term care affordable for seniors who don’t have long-term care insurance, as well as, helping people create a disability and end-of-life plan that will ensure a smooth transition when they become disabled or die. Scott also handles Probate, Trust Administration and Guardianship.

Scott is one of two Florida Elder Law Attorneys of the Year in 2016, which is an award presented by the Florida Bar’s Elder Law Section. Scott also received a public service award from the Florida Bar’s Elder Law Section in 2012.

Scott serves the Florida Bar’s Elder Law Section in many roles. Currently, he serves as co-chair of the Florida Bar Elder Law Section’s Membership Committee and on the Florida Legislative and Medicaid Committees.

Until reducing his duties to focus on his new law firm, Scott served on a statewide Task Force that advocates for the Elderly and Disabled, and he was Vice Chair of the Florida Bar’s Elder Law Section responsible for overseeing its Administrative Committees. Scott was Co-Chair of the Legislative Committee until June 2017.

Scott received his undergraduate degree from the Florida State University and his Juris Doctor from Stetson University’s College of Law. Scott has been married to Kimberly since 1984, and they have had 3 children and 1 grandchild.

Meet Attorney Chelsea Abend

Attorney Chelsea N. Abend has been interested in Elder law and Estate planning services since law school. At Cooley Law School, Chelsea received the Leadership Achievement Award for her work in the Elder Law Clinic. She continued her love for helping Seniors by providing estate planning services to clients throughout the Volusia County area since February 2017. In June 2018, Chelsea joined Selis Elder Law of Florida.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Ferris State University, Chelsea spent a year serving Livingston County, Michigan residents with developmental disabilities. Realizing she could better serve her community with a legal education, she attended Western Michigan University Cooley Law School.

Before graduating in the top 8% of her class at Cooley, Chelsea was the Vice President of the Student Bar Association, involved in Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity and Phi Delta Phi Honors Society, and was an Associate Editor of the Adelphia Law Journal. During her externship with the Elder Law Clinic, where she did estate planning for Michigan residents, she received the Board of Directors’ Award for her outstanding service to the community. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Cooley, she joined the Michigan Bar Association as well as the Florida Bar Association.

As a member of the Volusia County Bar Association, Rotary Club of Downtown Ormond Beach, Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, Volusia County Women Who Care, City of Daytona Beach Economic Development Advisory Board and a volunteer for Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida, Chelsea is dedicated to serving the community’s legal needs and understands the importance of giving back to those that have helped make this State shine.
